Q
LIFE APPLICATION. “Don’t let your anger fester overnight. Deal with it the day it happens” (Ephesians 4:26). Was Paul kidding, using hyperbole, or has he never had in-laws?
A
Oh, Paul got plenty mad at times. And he stayed mad overnight. Read the angriest thing he ever wrote in the Bible. It’s something that he might very well have revised had he known it was going to end up in the Holy Bible. You’ll find it in Galatians 5:12. Some anger, like Paul’s in this case, sticks around for a long time. On the other hand, there are some emotions that can be calmed quickly. In anger we say something hurtful to someone we love, then we see the pain they feel and we apologize. Everyone goes to bed calm, though perhaps a bit diminished in spirit. But we can build up the spirit again with compassion, encouragement, and love.
