PREMIERING TONIGHT at 6 o’clock Central Time:
- 7-minute trailer for the upcoming book Eyewitness to Crucifixion, releasing in February.
This book tells the story of what Romans thought of crucifixions they carried out or witnessed. It was “the worst torture of all,” according to Seneca, adviser to Nero, the first Roman emperor to target Christians.
This isn’t just a book of random quotes about crucifixion. It tells the stories behind the quotes, so we can better understand why Romans said what they did.
Sometimes, Romans were simply reporting the fact of a crucifixion, and passing the news up the chain of command.
Sometimes they were writing contracts for local executioners who doubled as undertakers, giving them an exclusive contract to handle burials in town in exchange for providing free crucifixions.
Yep, that’s in the book.
The trailer starts with the story of Roman lawyer Cicero jump-starting his career by prosecuting a governor who crucified a Roman citizen. It was illegal to crucify Roman citizens.
If you miss the premiere, you can catch up to the video on YouTube and Vimeo.
Take a look when you get a chance. I spent a couple weeks of my life putting this doggone thing together. It’s different than writing a book, and it has a learning curve that never seems to stop curving.
In video, as in just about any kind of work, it’s not as though we can honestly say, “I’ve learned enough. I’m done now.”
But in writing, I can certainly do that.
I’m done now.
