HERE’S THE DEAL. I just posted the letters of 1-2 Peter and Jude online in the Casual English Bible®.
If you are first to find a particular typo or some other mistake I decide I need to correct, I’ll send you a free, advance copy of my February release, Eyewitness to Crucifixion.
This whole project of the Casual English Bible is beta…not yet edited by a pro or proofed by one. That comes later on a schedule that some have kindly called unusual. What you read is what I wrote in my attempt to put the Bible writers in today’s easy-reading English.
I know. Other Bibles do it, too. But this started as a personal Bible study experiment that hasn’t stopped. One more book to go in the New Testament: Hebrews. Then on to more books in the Old Testament. Likely Proverbs first and Psalms second.
What I’m asking isn’t a hard job. There are only 5 short chapters in 1 Peter, 3 chapters in 2 Peter, and 1 odd chapter in Jude.
If you’re interested, here’s the link to 1 Peter 1.
Here’s a short selection from that chapter.
Wear holiness like skin
“Get your head on straight and behave. Keep counting on the kindness you’ll receive when Jesus Christ shows up.
You’re God’s kids. Act like it. Obey him. Don’t slip back into your old way of living by chasing whatever you crave. You didn’t know any better back then. You do now.
God is the Holy One, devoted to goodness. Live your life like that, holy and devoted to everything pure and good.
Our Bible puts it this way: ‘Be holy because I’m holy.’
…Bad habits passed down from your ancestors held you hostage to a worthless life. You’re free now. Not because of something that can be destroyed, like silver or gold.
Your ransom was paid by the sacred blood of a lamb, innocent and perfect. The blood of Christ, the Messiah…
You chase the truth and obey God. Because of this, your souls are clean. You’re good to go and good to God. Now be good to each other. Love your fellow believers with all your heart.”
