RUSHING OUT THE DOOR this morning, I’m off to help a friend help a friend move.
But I woke up thinking of something sad.
My lady pastor leaves on Sunday, Molly Simpson. One of the finest pastors I’ve ever had.
I told her so yesterday when my wife and I had lunch with her.
As my brain awakened, a Bible verse came to mind. And I instantly decided to edit it.
“This is the day that the LORD has made,
I will rejoice
and be sad in it.”
Psalm 118:24, adjusted for this weekend
Happy for Molly, that she’ll get to take some time off the time-swallowing job of pastoring to spend the days with her pre-school daughter and son, while hubby Ben pastors some youth in a Texas church.
Another twisted line comes to mind, too. It’s from the play, “Teahouse of the August Moon.”
Instead of “I cry for happy,”
“Happy, I cry.”
It’s good to love someone enough that it hurts to say goodbye.
That’s a good hurt.
