SING ONE FOR THE PROPHET. This is an invitation to sing your own version of Habakkuk’s song.
DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO CAN SING? I have a deal to make.
I released the “Habakkuk song” yesterday, “I Will Thank God He’s My Savior.” It’s a song inspired by the prophet’s last-known words. I have no idea how it’s doing; I haven’t solved the mystery of the apps. I do know a couple of the Spotify playlists added the song: Serendipity and Top Christian Songs of 2024. Two more said they will.
I sent the song on its way into the universe yesterday morning along with a YouTube video at noon.
Well, I have a different version of the video today. This has no vocals. It has only instruments. It’s not just a karaoke singalong track. I have something more in mind.
The ask
I want someone to make a cover version of it that I can post on my YouTube channel, and you can keep for yourself, too. You can use the instrumental in the video. Or you can play a harmonica and banjo if you like. I’m curious to see how someone else would approach the song, and the message of Habakkuk to people in hard times.
The prize
If yours is the best cover…I can’t imagine there would be much competition…I will create your music video. It will not win an Oscar, but it will beat an Oscar Meyer hotdog on a stick, unless you’re hungry.
You would have to supply the music, hopefully from a good microphone, and the video images from your phone or whatever you’ve got to capture pictures. I’ll put the puzzle together.
The deadline
Easter, March 31. We all should be able to remember that. Jesus steps out of a tomb and you step into a video.
Vocal-free video
The instruments on the track I’m supplying sound pretty lonely without the vocals. That’s your job.
Now I know there might not be a soul interested in doing this. But I hope there is.

I didn’t sing that song. As I told one of my friends yesterday, I thought the musicians did a great job with it. I wish I could have used their real names, but they had contracts with the studio that required them to perform in a work-for-hire. I pressed to get their names anyhow, but couldn’t. So I had to create pseudonyms. Then I messed up the metadata by putting my name in as “artist,” thinking songwriters qualified. But that was the line for the singers. Now I’m credited with singing the song. To correct it, I would have had to pull the song and resubmit, only to plug in the pseudonyms. I feel bad about that. But it could be worse; they could have sounded terrible.

Thank you Stephen for the instrumental version. I love singing to it, but as your grandson says: “It stinks.” Maybe on Broadway, I could sell a song, but I digress.
