Silent Night

HERE’S A NEW RELEASE OF SILENT NIGHT.

It has been a rocky year for us, dealing with a lot of website problems with the Casual English Bible, as we try to add a subscription service to our Bible maps. But we’re on the road to recovery. And, it’s Christmas Week.

So for those of us dealing with stress, loss, or the blues—and for those happy as a lucky duck on a quiet pond, here’s the rich and mellow sound of Silent Night, sung by Becca Eck. It’s a track from a new album called An Echo Calling, available on Spotify, Amazon, and other distributors.

Becca is my daughter, but she can sing anyhow.

What we look like isn’t who we are

art of dental hygienist and male patient. If you’re not subscribed to the Casual English Bible blog, you missed the personal blog feature that began like this:

THE DENTIST’S CHAIR is not a place I usually associate with spirituality or things of God. But it was there this morning that I learned something about who we are.

The dental hygienist was at a pause point. She was changing techniques from waterboarding, as she called it, to fingernails on the chalkboard, as I call it—scraping my teeth with a pick.

What happened next is this: I choked on a story about my son. Very embarrassing. In the dentist’s office. It’s bad enough in church. Read More…

Merry Christmas

It’s Merry Christmas to our Christian readers, Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish readers, and Happy Holidays to everyone who prefers that greeting.

I hope next year is better than last year, but it’s looking pretty sour out there now.  May we stand up for those in trouble and those who are most vulnerable, and often ignored. In Bible times, they were widows, orphans, and immigrants. Times haven’t changed. Yet those souls are ones Bible writers say God cared about enough to plead for them over and over. If God cares and he asks us, his kids, to help the most vulnerable—we need to show some family resemblance. That’s a persistent message throughout the Bible.

And it’s as persistently ignored. Is that because the standards of the world rub off on the children of God’s kingdom? We do seem to rub elbows with more creeps than angels.

Theories? Why do so many Christians behave in a way that appears opposite the Bible’s description of what a follower of Jesus looks like?

Let’s chat about that if you’re interested. Hit the comment and I’ll respond.

Have a wonderful week with family or friends or God. Or all of them at the same time.
