GOING FOR THE HEART. Spotify curators running music playlists offer their criticism and encouragement about a song I just released. Some musicians advise against reading the rejection. But if we make them listen to our songs, we should probably listen to theirs.
I THOUGHT THOSE OF YOU WHO LIKE ME and those of you don’t (and you know who are) might enjoy hearing what Spotify playlist curators of Christian music had to say about the song I just released, I Will Thank God He’s My Savior.
Curators decide what songs to add to their playlists.
The process involves submitting your song to playlists in your genre. Mine is Christian/Inspirational.
Most curators declined my song as not right for their playlist. Yeah, it feels like asking someone out on a date and getting told “You’re not my type.”
But most curators were gentle.
As for the Few, the Brave, the Curators—those soulful spirits playing my song, I’m adding bold type to their bold words.
I discovered we need more playlists in the Christian/Inspirational category. It doesn’t seem to compare well with other genres.
I could try rap next time, but it drives me crazy trying to make out the blurring, hyperventilated lyrics.

“Singer opens the song up with examples and illustrations of scripture. Instruments drive the song and the vocalist seems talented. Song is just very wordy. The track quickly becomes mundane and repetitive.”
Steve: “Song is just very wordy” could be tightened: “Song is wordy.”
Top Christian Radio Hits
“Thanks for sending us your music! We like the feel of the song, and we’re adding it to our playlist Top Christian Radio Hits.”

“Hi there, I like the melody of the guitar as it sets the song up well. The vocal effects in the background did a lot to give the song depth. I look for a song more upbeat than this though. Best of luck.”
Lexi
“Hi! The song is charming with a nice overall message. The style isn’t as commercial as I typically anchor my playlists with, but I enjoyed the listen and hope you find it successful!”
Elise
“I love the lyrics of this song. The message is so so good. I think it sounds a little bit like a kid’s worship song. The sound just isn’t as rich as it could be. I love the harmonies a ton though!”
Phil
“Thanks for your submission. Unfortunately, this isn’t the genre I’m looking for, which is more upbeat modern-pop. Not a bad song, just not right for my playlists. Thanks for understanding and good luck!”
Grace and Peace | Healing Worship Songs, Tom
“I love the lyrics heart and passion of this song so much, and how it points to the implications of the love of Christ. Happy to share :).”
Cameron Keith
“The lyrics are certainly closely tied to Scripture and I love that. However, the production is a little barebones for my playlists.”
TOP CHRISTIAN HITS 2024, Eric
“Thank you for your submission! Your track is wonderfully mixed/produced and I love the melody in the chorus. This would be a great fit for my playlist – well done! “

Christian Vibes
We appreciate you sharing your music, although at the moment we are focused on finding more dynamic genres, such as hip-hop or rap, as well as songs with impactful atmospheres to be used in moments of worship.”
Chill Space
“Thanks for sending this by! Loved the warm guitars and uplifting progression this track had to it. Organs were a lovely touch, although the overall vibe here had felt a bit folksy for us. All the best with this release! :)”
Inner Peace
“Beautiful message and voice in your music but I don’t feel the instrumental matching our lists this time. Wish you a good day.”
Lexi Brooks
“Hi! I appreciate the sentiment in this song as it has a good message and I enjoyed the overall listen. The style isn’t quite as commercially styled as I typically look for, but I enjoyed the listen. Thanks for sharing!”
Omae Lion
“Super good Christian vibes specifically lyrically, good quality of production but the melodies were not entirely interesting to me, and the track became very aggressive in the second half. It may not fit well in my playlists. Sorry I’ll kindly pass on this one. Thanks for sharing and all the best.”
Praise Worthy!
“HI Stephen – nice vocals and good production. However, for me, the melodies felt a little hymn-like vs the contemporary sound we’re looking for in our playlists. So sorry but good luck with it.”
Steve: Does that make my song unpraiseworthy? By the way, “praiseworthy” is one word. No criticism, just a suggestion. Also, you might consider reserving exclamation points for people screaming, as in “A bear is in the tent!” or, worse, “Your songs stinks!”
Profimusic
“Approved.”
Ricky Tomboli
This song has a nice uppity and energetic pace and overall feeling but it sits in between the sound of the soft worship playlist and the worship and warfare one and is not a solid fit for either.”
Universal Hits
“Nice work! I’d be very happy to share this on my playlist :).”
To be shared:
- in a Spotify playlist
- as soon as we can get to it
Wes Winebarger
“This had more of a classic sound than the radio aspects I’m looking for right now but I enjoyed the happy feel and the driving energy that kept things moving.”
