THIS IS A SHORT WEEK FOR ME.
So I’m keeping the blog articles short. And I’m writing about short stuff.
Tuesday was about fish, since that is why my week is short. I’ve been fly-fishing.
Today, it’s about grandkids. Since these newbie members to my family are on my mind every day.
My granddaughter is so new that I hadn’t seen her with her eyes open until this past Sunday. She brought her parents over for lunch after church, but she slept through the meal while resting on my wife’s shoulder.
I stopped eating long enough to take the picture I’m posting with this article.
After the meal, she woke up. Then her eyes popped open. Wide open.
My wife held her six inches from her face, looking eyeball to eyeball.
I rushed over beside my wife and suddenly there were four eyeballs looking at the granddaughter from just a few inches away.
She looked over at me and then looked right into my eyes for perhaps half a minute. That’s half an eternity in newborn time.
The moment touched me and my eyes teared up a tad.
Both the touch and the tears testify that the Jewish songwriter knew what he was talking about:
Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him. Psalm 127:3

Thanks Steve. Sometimes it’s a tossup: personal, professional. On Tuesday I opted for the fly-fishing post instead of news about an ancient Canaanite ruin that will be encased in the basement of a high-rise apartment. Probably a good choice.
