Killing Jesus, the video

Stephen M. Miller

VIEW FROM A CROSS. The mother of Jesus and a crowd of others watch the Son of God die, nailed to a cross by mortals. It's a story that breaks the hearts of Christians and that sounds like fiction to others. Painting by James Tissot.

WE’RE IN A COUNTDOWN to the execution of God’s Son.

After tomorrow, there’s just three more Friday’s to go. Come sundown on March 30, when Jews begin their Sabbath rest, Jesus will be resting in peace. At least that’s how many Christians will be picturing him.

Yesterday, I released a short video about the suffering and death of Jesus. It’s called “Death of Jesus.” It features the art of the famous Bible story illustrator James Tissot (1836-1902).

I think it’s a tender story.

It’s just one of four stories about the death of Jesus in my video library.

I was surprised when I realized I had that many. But when I thought about it, the Crucifixion of Jesus is an important event in history and in our faith.

I’ll post links to the videos, for those who might like to see them.

NEW VIDEO: Death of Jesus

crucifixion of Jesus

Story of the suffering and death of Jesus. It’s actually half the story in a deeply personal video I did recently, listed below: Two Deaths.

VIDEO: What Romans said about crucifixion

crucifixion scene

Bible writers weren’t the only ones talking about crucifixions…or the crucifixion of Jesus. Roman writers did, too, with gritty detail. Jesus’ crucifixion actually shows up in Roman history books and letters written in his own century.

VIDEO: Crucifixion Q…Did the body of Jesus rot on the cross?

Some history buffs say Romans would never have allowed the body of Jesus to be taken off the cross so quickly, and buried. I looked into the history of that criticism. Though there are lots of references to crucified criminals getting left to rot on the cross, there’s no indication Romans followed that as standard procedure. And there is plenty of evidence that bodies were removed from the cross and buried.

This is the true story of two men who suffered and died on a Friday. One of the men was Jesus. The other is a man with cancer. I don’t mean to diminish what Jesus went through on Good Friday—or what he accomplished for people of faith. Just the opposite. I think it makes the story of Jesus all the more personal when we consider the dying of others we love, and the story of their suffering. This is the story that did that for me.
