One-question Bible Quiz

I INVITED READERS to send a Bible quiz. Short ones.

This one comes from Wayne Sacchi, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has been a reader, encourager, and sometimes gentle critic of mine for more years than I can remember.

So, he gets first shot at trying to convince you to mess up and guess wrong.

Okay, here’s the quiz. I’ll post the answer at the bottom of the page. So, don’t look there unless you start a book by reading the last page. In which case, it’s hopeless to expect you not to look.

Also, if you send a quiz that I use, I’ll send you a free book if you like.

BIBLE QUIZ:

Pick the only incorrect statement of these five

All of the following statements are TRUE, EXCEPT ONE:

  1. David wrote a majority of the Psalms.

  2. There is no biblical reference to angels ever singing.

  3. Jeremiah is the longest Bible book, by word count.

  4. Shortest Bible book by word count is 3 John.

  5. The Bible doesn’t say there were three wise men. It says there were three gifts.

David gets credit for only 73 of the 150 Psalms, which is less than half. Also, the credit says the books are “of David.” That could mean by him, about him, or dedicated to him. There’s no way to know how many of these he wrote. The Bible does say he wrote a funeral song for King Saul and the king’s son, Jonathan: “How the mighty heroes have fallen!” (2 Samuel 1:27). He also wrote a song about how he wanted to be remembered after he died, as “the sweet psalmist of Israel” (2 Samuel 23:1).

You got me with this one, Steve. It’s the word “majority” of psalms rather than “most” psalms that did me in. While he wrote (for certain) fewer than half of the 150 psalms, he did write many more than Asaph, Korah or the others given (or not given) credit.

    Fun quiz though!

Thanks, Steve. Wayne came up with that tricky question. It’s your turn to come up with one. Give it a shot.

I remember this question on one of my Bible college exams. Most students got it wrong!
